Premier Lougheed, Rest In Peace

I was saddened to hear of the death of Peter Lougheed. He was an amazing man and a great Canadian. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.A video tribute.

Dear Dr. Roy;

Thanks, watching and listening to parts of the videos you posted helped me understand Mr. Lougheed's strengths and his success. He was obviously talented. He was a lucky as he was talented in that he lead the government of Alberta at a time of great prosperity. His timing was impeccable. Had he stayed on for one more term, until wasteful, big spending machine he had built and still burdens Alberta today had turned reduced revenues into huge annual deficits and debt he would have ended his career looking more like his co-footballer, Don Getty.

Timing counts for so much and he looks so good because he was lucky enough, or prescient enough, to jump from the train before it went crashing into the valley of debt. Red Allison will be the last of his ilk to lead the party he built. That party will be dead in Alberta after the next election.
