I went to see Theodore Bikel in Sholom Aleichem:Laughter Through Tears, at the Segal. Bikel is 88 years old, the same age as my Mom. He has also been on both Babylon 5 and Star Trek ( as Worf's father), played Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof more than 2000 times and even was in The Sound of Music on stage! What's not to love. It was a one man show about legendary Yiddish author Sholem Alechem. Fiddler on the roof is based on his stories of Tevye the milkman. Bikel wrote the music for the play. I was saddened to hear of the death of Bikel's wife,Tamara Brooks , in May of this year. The play was done in her honor. She collaborated on the play and on many of Bikel's projects. At 88, Bikel managed a 90 minute show without intermission. It was a tour de force. It was singing acting and very moving. Lots of Yiddish , but Bikel translates. If you have a chance you should see this show. It runs until July 22, 2012.
