Tuition fees in Quebec...

... are among the lowest in North America. There has been a freeze for many years. It is time for the fees to increase. Most people in Quebec understand this. Even most students understand this. The radical student unions wanr free tuition. Indeed I am sure they want to be paid to study marxism, and other forms of victimology. The tuition fees in Quebec end up subsidizing the upper middle class and the rich. First year Medical school in TOronto is $20000 , 5 times the tuition in Quebec. Equalization was not meant to allow poor provinces to offer much better services. Tution in Alberta is more than double that of Quebec. It is time to lower the equalization pool. It is time for students in Quebec to shoulder the costs of their own education.

If Charest persists with this pander to the students of secondary education, then the malaise of 2nd tier province will continue to plague development of the province. However if this is the choice of the Quebec government, then the ROC will keep moving forward and leave them behind with their fantasy utopia. The student subsidies mean less money for other programs and government priorities. Cheers.

Also, these lower fees only apply to Quebec students - my two BC born/educated children had to pay more than double what the Quebec children paid when they went to McGill. The weird thing is that children from France were also charged the Quebec rate,
