Stupid stupid stupid

This was an utterly stupid move by someone at Tory headquarters. I have been trying to discover who. This has hurt our cause in TMR. The candidate and riding association in TMR were very unhappy by this bone headed move. I am very sure they had nothing to do with this. This was so dumb, when I first heard about it, I thought it was the liberals. not our finest hour.

I agree. Very disappointing. Whoever is behind it should be fired.

Yes, it was a very stupid thing to do and the person behind it should be removed. That said we should remember that being a conservative does not make one automatically perfect and flawless. As long as we recognise our mistakes and take immediate and appropriate action to correct them, I can live with that.

Perhaps the Party suffers from too many "yes" men, when someone conceives an idea, everyone jumps on board, and no one wants to be the odd man out.

But there are many I've seen in the Conservative Party who have the same moral values as some Liberals, this idea undoubtedly came from one of those types.

I don't like it,
not when the media does it,
not when the liberals do it,
and not when my party does it.

Ahead of the 2004 election, the Liberals engaged in a "push poll," asking Ontarians whether they'd still support the Tories if they knew the party "had been taken over by Evangelical Christians."

I agree it is a stupid idea. As some columnists have said, not just on this issue but on others, the Conservatives should relax. They have a majority, so they should put aside the pugnacious attitude and just concentrate on passing their legislation, explaining it FULLY to the population.

I have been critical of the Conservatives' communications strategy in the past and continue to be disappointed in it. For example, instead of the Justice & Public Security Ministers implying during QP that the opposition cares more about criminals than they do about victims, they should keep highlighting
• the types of crimes they are targeting are SERIOUS offences, contrary to what the opposition says
• the legislation has a rehabilitation component, contrary to what the opposition says
• young offenders guilty of a serious crime will not do their time in adult jails among the general population, contrary to what the opposition says
• minimum sentences will apply to drug trafficking, not to occasional personal users, contrary to what the opposition says -- although I want to make clear I'm not condoning recreational use of drugs.

Come to think of it ... another "Stupid stupid stupid" tactic is the phone calls to the TMR riding in Montreal implying Irwin Cotler is resigning soon and that there's a by-election coming.

The Conservatives have four years ahead of them, so they should lay off the rumour mill and innuendo. Leave those tactics to the opposition and concentrate on governing.

Yes, it's true that the opposition and their buddies in the press gallery often spread all sorts of rumours about the Conservatives, primarily the PM. BUT just because THEY sink to that level it doesn't mean the Conservatives should sink to that same scummy level.
