A nice article about the sacred ties between Aboriginal people and the Crown. I remember watching an episode of the Beachcombers and the Queen Victoria Medallion was mentioned. It was held by a hereditary chief.
Queen Victoria, with whom the treaties were signed, is still known among First Nations as Grandmother or Great Mother because of the agreement that the land would be shared. Silver medals were given to the Indian leaders as a commemoration, and are prized by the nations that still possess them, for they represent the honoured agreements articulated within the treaties.
