Canada's Royal Wedding Stamps

Royal Canadian Legion Officials members of Dominion Command

Isabelle Toussaint withe stamps she created

I had a lovely morning at Rideau Hall this morning. His excellency the Governor General david Johston unveiled the Royal Wedding Stamps. It was wonderful to see Rideau Hall again. There were about 150 people in attendance. I attended with a contingent from the Monarchist League of Canada. Canada Post had initially said it would not issue stamps, but with a lot of demands from the league and Canadians that decision was changed.
HE spoke of how his wife HE Sharon and he had been married for 46 years and had met when she was 13 years old. He wished  HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton as much happiness and fulfillment as he and his wife had experienced. He spoke of the central role of the Crown in our democracy. The head of Canada post Deepak Chopra also spoke and introduced the designer of the stamps Isabelle Toussaint from Montreal.
It was great to see old friends and meet a lot of new people at the lovely reception that followed. I had a chance to chat with HE and reminded him that he was principal of McGill when I was at McGill and that I had recently asked him a question at a conference in Montreal.
There were many young people at the event and they crowded around the portraits of the stamps to have their pictures taken.
It was a really great event. Canada Post is printing 16 million of these stamps and they will be availible across Canada!

'Looks like a great event at Government House. (Dr. Roy, like the Chicken Man [CHUM RADIO, late '60s], you're everywhere! You're everywhere!)

I wish Prince William and Catherine Middleton all the joy in the world. It's not easy being a member of the Royal Family, but "Wills" has done the Windsors proud and so will Kate, I'm sure.

Only those who don't know their history and have no idea about the advantages of a parliamentary democracy -- oh, yes, and who are envious of the rich and famous -- are unable to enter into the joy of this occasion.

I rather hope that PM Harper and Laureen decide to go to the Royal Wedding.
