Danny Williams tanked federal Tory support in Newfoundland and Labrador. The people of that great province have decided having a seat at the table is a good idea. I expect 2-4 new seats from Newfoundland and Labrador. We need 12 for a majority!
John Ivison reports on breaking poll: Tories set for big gains in Newfoundland
UPDATE – the NTV poll also asked if Cabinet representation is important to Newfoundlanders. Ninety-five per cent of respondents consider it important, which suggests that any Conservative candidate looking set to win will receive an extra boost to ensure the province once again has a man or woman at the table, should the Tories win.
A new opinion poll is likely to have federal Conservatives on the Rock breaking out the Screech, kissing codfish and toasting that long may all their big jibs draw. The NTV/Telelink poll suggests a big resurgence for the federal Tories, who lost all three seats at the last election in the wake of former Premier Danny Williams’ Anyone But Conservative campaign.
The new poll has the Conservatives at 32.1%, double their percentage of the popular vote in 2008. The Liberals are at 21%, down from 47% last time, while the NDP are at 7.6%, down from 40% in 2008. The sample size was 754 and the poll has a margin of error +/- 3.6 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
