Public Sector Unions

Public sector unions are out of control. Unlike private sector unions, they don't worry about bankrupting their employers. THey help elct their boses and then make demans. This is particularly true in Quebec. Time to amend the Rand formula. Union members should only have to pay what is needed for negotiations and legitimate union activities. All political activity funding should be made voluntary. I would like to see more choice and allowing the Rand formula itself to be challenged, but one step at a time.

A wage and benefit freeze until the private sector catches up would freeze spending and give the Government time to reduce spending in other sectors and bring the debt down.

The Armed Forces had to endure a seven year wage freeze during the 1990's, so there is a precedent for this.

If the soldiers, sailors and airmen who put their lives on the line for the rest of us had to do without to balance the budget (and they started from a much lower baseline than the majority of civil service jobs), then it is easy to ask the pampered civil servants who are not putting everything on the line for us to take an extended pay freeze.
