Pray for New Zealand

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Dominion of New Zealand, a fellow Commonwealth realm. We share a Monarch and much more. At least 65 are reported dead in  yesterdays earthquake. Video here. Kiwis are wonderful, generous people and we should help them in any way we can. Please pray for the people of New Zealand.

Queen Elizabeth II 'shocked' by earthquake

Queen Elizabeth II says she is "utterly shocked" by the news that a powerful earthquake had killed at least 65 people the New Zealand's city of Christchurch.

The British monarch and New Zealand's head of state expressed her sadness at the 6.3-magnitude quake - which crushed buildings and left hundreds trapped - in a message to the Pacific nation's prime minister John Key.

"I have been utterly shocked by the news of another earthquake in Christchurch," wrote the Queen.

"Please convey my deep sympathy to the families and friends of those who have been killed; my thoughts are with all those who have been affected by this dreadful event.

"My thoughts are also with the emergency services and everyone who is assisting in the rescue efforts."

Mr Key said New Zealand could be witnessing its "darkest day" after the quake, which was the country's deadliest tremor in 80 years.

A 7.0 quake hit the city six months earlier but miraculously claimed no victims.
