The Royal society of the United Kingdom has a much more reasonable and climate realist position on climate change. It is good to see some scientific turn away from hysteria and exaggeration.
Shock: Top British Scientists force Royal Society into Climate Change U-Turn By: John O’Sullivan
Britain’s Royal Society issue astonishing climate change climb down and disowns scientists who have made predictions about heat waves and rising sea levels.
On September 30, 2010 The Royal Society (RS) published its humiliating climb down under the header ‘Climate change: a summary of the science.’ The sudden move appears to be a desperate attempt to pre-empt a possible rebellion among the ranks of the world’s oldest and most prestigious science institute.
In a new document that replaces the institution’s former official guide, ‘Climate change controversies, a simple guide,’ the RS now officially concedes, “some uncertainties are unlikely ever to be significantly reduced”.

RIP Tony Curtis and the Anniversary of the Flintstones
I was saddened to learn of the death of Tony Curtis. I remember him for his movies and also for his appearance on the Flintstones. Long before the Simpsons, the modern stone age family had guest appearances. You can watch the episode in Englsh ( after the Japanese commercial) here. It is also the 50th anniversary of the Flintstones. The Flintstones even got a Google doodle.
Good bye Tony Curtis you had a full life and brought amusement to millions. My sympathies to your family. May you rest in peace.

More developments for my friends the Jaworskis. Glad to see they and the LSS are getting support from all over the place. The Liberty Summer Seminar is a great event and the Jaworskis are wonderful people. They had their court date postponed and no disclosure yet!
I have suggested before that the local politicians ,especially mayor abernethy, should help and if they don't they should be defeated at the polls.
Sounds like abernethy has a lot of competition. abernethy must go. The LSS must stay!!!
Over the last few days, I’ve spoken with all of the non-incumbent candidates for mayor. While their commitment to working something out with my mom and dad differs a little, all three of the non-incumbents were supportive, and promised to figure something out to either end the court proceedings against my mom and dad, or to come up with a solution that would permit the continuation of the Liberty Summer Seminar.
Jeremy Woodcock came out in person to our court trial yesterday, so I finally got an opportunity to speak with him face to face. His support for my mom and dad and the Liberty Summer Seminar is unequivocal. Since my dad brought the “Save the Liberty Summer Seminar” petition with him, Jeremy went ahead and signed it again...

Disgusting
I am very unhappy with this stupid motion. I congratulate Andre Arthur and condemn my own party's MPs. It was cowardly to denounce Maclean's in parliament. I am pretty mad.
But the suggestion that all of Quebec was the “most corrupt province” was too much, apparently, for MPs from all parties, who unanimously supported the motion from Bloc Quebecois MP Pierre Paquette “that this House, while recognizing the importance of vigorous debate on subjects of public interest, expresses its profound sadness at the prejudice displayed and the stereotypes employed by Maclean’s Magazine to denigrate the Quebec nation, its history and its institutions.”
Andre Arthur, an independent MP from the Quebec City region, objected at first to Paquette’s request for unanimous consent on the motion, but after Arthur left the House of Commons, Paquette re-introduced the motion and it was adopted with many MPs from all sides standing to applaud.
“For anybody in Quebec and in Canada, it’s not the kind of debate we want,” Paquette said after the vote. “It’s a good sign for democracy in Canada and in Quebec.”
Arthur said Paquette’s motion was inappropriate.
“Parliament has no business to criticize the work of reporters,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Quebec City, Premier Jean Charest demanded an apology from the magazine.

La Cage Aux Folles
A.J. Shively
Kelsey Grammer as Georges
Douglas Hodge as Albin
I recently saw La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway. It was a wonderful production. Unfortunately Douglas Hodge was replaced by Christopher Hoch. Hoch did do an amazing job. Kelsery Grammer was wonderful as Georges. The rest of the cast was also amazing. This is the third production of this pay I have seen, but it was by far the best production. It was touching, while being very funny.

Lorrie Goldstein on corruption in Quebec. Buying Quebec's affection with money and programs has not worked and has ramped up this bribery throughout the Dominion.
The problem with bribes is they don’t just corrupt the bribee. They corrupt the briber as well.
That’s being overlooked in the latest phony, only-in-Canada “controversy” over the Maclean’s cover story describing Quebec as Canada’s most corrupt province.
All the usual suspects in Quebec and Ottawa — provincial and federal politicians of all stripes, both separatist and federalist — predictably have their shorts in a knot over Maclean’s stating what everybody already knows, including inside Quebec.
That is, while there’s corruption in every province, Quebec really is different. That’s because the constant bidding war between federalists and separatists for the affection of Quebecers, using federal tax money, fuels a unique degree of corruption inside Quebec.
But that doesn’t just corrupt Quebec. It corrupts the rest of Canada, too.
Indeed, the most infamous recent case of corruption in Quebec — the “federal” sponsorship scandal — originated in Ottawa.

trudeau s disappearing legacy
I congratulate Premier elect David Alward of New Brunswick. Chantal Hebert thinks this the harbinger of many more provincial grit defeats. She says it means to is an undoing of the trudeaupian nightmare. Unfortunately not fast enough. We have much to do to undo the horrors that trudeau has wrought on our great country. I guess this is a beginning, if even the present day grits run from the trudeau legacy.
As Ignatieff was talking up language rights and other federal issues in Montreal, New Brunswick premier Shawn Graham — a leading member of the post-Trudeau Liberal generation — was being consigned to the dustbin of history after just one mandate in power.
Graham's defeat could be a harbinger of more provincial defeats to come for the Liberals.
By the end of the current provincial electoral cycle, PEI's Joe Ghiz could be the only government leader to still bear the Liberal label. There is a real possibility that the party that built Canada's social union in the sixties and seventies could have little representation of any kind at the table of the upcoming renegotiation of the federal-provincial fiscal arrangements that underpin Medicare.
With a year to go to the next Ontario election, the winds of change are battering premier Dalton McGuinty's third-term government.
A solid majority of Quebecers would rather have Premier Jean Charest resign than undergo the second half of his third term. In British Columbia, the tide turned against Premier Gordon Campbell some time ago.

more hrc insanity
Another reason to abolish hrcs. This is breathtakingly arrogant. What other powers do the thought police believe they have? Mediocre minds making up law as they go along. Professor Moon has defended these hrcs and it has come back to bite him in the butt. I have spoken to a number of lawyer friends, none of who thought the hrc could ever dream of appointing a law school dean. This is madness. Ezra is right. Fire them all
The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario says it has the power to both remove and appoint university deans, according to a new ruling in the case of a woman who claims racism and sexism were behind her rejection as Dean of Law at the University of Windsor.
Professor Emily Carasco alleges a colleague “sabotaged” her candidacy last spring by raising historical allegations of plagiarism with the search committee, and as part of her human rights complaint, she asked the tribunal to over-rule the school and appoint her dean.
Both Prof. Carasco and another candidate were rejected for the position, and so the outgoing dean has agreed to stay through this academic year, and a new search committee is currently at work.
The complaint of discrimination — against both the school and the colleague, constitutional law expert Richard Moon — remains undecided, but in an interim ruling on Tuesday, the tribunal refused Prof. Carasco’s unusual request for an order stopping that new search and appointing her dean of law for a five-year, renewable term.
The refusal, however, was premised on the tribunal’s ability to someday remove any future dean and install Prof. Carasco, if it decides she was the victim of discrimination.

trudeau was a horrible pm
trudeau and pearson tried to buy off French Canada by destroying English Canadians symbols and culture. It didn't work. IT did not satisfy Quebec nationalists and has left English canada rudderless. Multiculturalism, a strategy to buy ethnic votes is as bad for ethnic communities as it is for canada. trudeau was the roiginal tax and spend liberal. he was elitist, disrespectful and hideously arrogant. trudeau and the grits are responsible for much of canad's national unity issues. Their policies of massives centralization directly contradicted the wisdom of our Constitution. The charter of rights is abonanza for lawyers and judges , who now make likes at will. he openly cavorted with communist dictators and encouraged them to enslave their peoples.
When Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff invokes a prime ministerial hero, it’s always Lester Pearson.
He rarely mentions the personal impact of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, even though the former prime minister’s eldest son sits three rows behind him in the House of Commons as a rookie Quebec MP.
But there’s a good reason to tread carefully on the PET connection even now, a decade after his death.
He divides us still.

Good news in Ontario, the lying, incompetent mcginty is falling fast. Finally the people of Ontario are beginning to notice the profligate grits are failing as a government. $25billion provincial deficits, a billion wasted in e health, Caledonia, the list is endless. Three out of four Ontarians believe it’s “time for a change” at Queen’s Park because of the unpopular 13 per cent harmonized sales tax and lingering economic fears, a new poll suggests.
The Toronto Star-Angus Reid survey indicates Premier Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals, who mark their seventh anniversary in power on Saturday, face major challenges as they head toward the Oct. 6, 2011 election.
With 76 per cent of respondents saying they would like to see another party in power and 71 per cent warning the province “is on the wrong track,” the poll signals change may be on the horizon.

HOMOCON 2010
I enjoyed HOMOCON 2010. It was at the home of PayPal founder Peter Thiel in NYC. Lots of interesting people. It was great to see my friends Fred Litwin and his partner Andrew, Tammy Bruce, Gay Patriot Bruce Carroll, Alex Knepper and many others.
Ann Coulter recognized me from her Canadian tour and greeted me with a hug.
Her speech was pretty funny. She expressed her views against same sex marriage in a respectful way. The audience argued with her, but she held her view. She did make several suggestion for common cause including opposition to abortion and no fault divorce. The discourse was civil, which is always nice to see. She was indeed quite poitive about gay people( highest incomes, improve neighbourhoods,)
Lots of coverage here, here, here, here and here.
I congratulate Chris Barron, Jimmy LaSalvia and all their volunteers on a fabulous evening.

HIH Prince Reza Pahalavi
HIH was in Toronto last week. I was supposed to meet HIM, but I was out of town last week. HIH is continuing to help the Iranian people battle the murderous mullahs. You can donate here to help withe HIM's work. One day I hope to see HIH on the Peacock throne as the head of a Constitutional Monarchy.
When he turned 21, Reza Cyrus Pahlavi publicly declared himself Shahanshah (King of Kings). He became Reza Pahlavi II and formally staked his claim to the Peacock Throne, after the death of his father, the exiled Shah of Iran.
Now, 29 years later, the tall, dark and silver-haired resident of Potomac, Va., on the suburban outskirts of Washington, simply signs himself "Mister."
His office's press releases refer to him as "the former Crown Prince of Iran," but his staff privately persists in referring to him as "His Majesty."
At 50, Mr. Pahlavi dismisses talk of restoring the monarchy in Iran and says his life is now dedicated to creating a non-violent, democratic revolution there.

La Bete
I also saw La bete while I was in NYC. It was a hilarious comedy about the nature of the theatre. The actors were amazing. It was an intense 2 hours of theatre iambic pentameter. The play is set in France of the 1700s, the costumes and sets were amazing as well. The play made one think about state support of the theater and the degree a playwright needs to "sell out" in order to satisfy his patron and his audience. It was thoroughly enjoyable afternoon before Homocon 2010.

Increase tuitions in Quebec
Quebec universities, particularly my Alma mater are underfunded. Tuitions are half of what they are in real dollars, as they were in the 80's. It is time for increases in tuition and higher tuitions at the professional schools. In Quebec bothoth the pq and charest grits think these are radical ideas. The ADQ does not. Neither does the rector of the Universite de Montreal or the Principal of McGill University.
At last: fresh ideas on financing universities
THE GAZETTE SEPTEMBER 25, 2010
Without fresh infusions of money, Quebec's universities will ultimately start to stagnate. The quality of their teaching and research will decline and their ability to attract top-rated academics and the best students will erode. These are simple facts. Quebecers should know them by heart by now. They are warned about this grim prognosis every year.
And every year, we get the same stale response: The Parti Quebecois insists that the province's absurdly low tuition fees are key to social solidarity and can on no account be raised. Thus encouraged, student associations take to the streets if necessary to reject the idea that they pay anything approaching a fair share of what it costs to educate them.
And that's enough to spook the Charest government back to the status quo.

Surprises on the TO Mayoral race
Two columns which are both surprising. Lord Black endorses Sarah Thompson and lefty walkom kind of defends Rob Ford.
I was initially somewhat interested in Sarah Thompson, but she has no money, few volunteers and has been very haphazard in policy lately. I must say that Rob Ford made me nervous, but the more he is attacked by the red star and others, the more I like him. I think it is likely Rob Ford will be mayor.

The useless, corrupt un?
Rex has a column on the un. I can't say I disagree. However I think since we do spend a lot of money on the un and sent our soldiers on un missions , a seat on the security council could be useful to help monitor things.
On Thursday, Stephen Harper visited the United Nations to make a plea for Canada having another turn on the UN Security Council. Why? After so many instances of the UN’s impotence, corruption and waste, why does the body still retain any residue of prestige. Is a seat on the Security Council worth the public begging?
The UN is a study in moral relativism: It presents the same countenance to the most despotic regime as it does to a genuine democracy. Its so-called Human Rights Council is a byword for farce. In situations where urgent intervention is required, it is either incapable of acting or deliberately temporizes at crisis moments. Who can forget Rwanda?
It inserts itself into the great questions of the day — the planet’s climate, for instance — and then seeks to monopolize or control the arguments and input into that question. It affects impartiality, but is agenda-driven. The United Nations may have begun as a noble dream, but it has become just another bartering house for international politicians, a quick prestige stop for some, a chance for Third World diplomats to sample the gaudy West.

Excellent Choice
This sounds like a very good choice. He has an excellent knowledge of the economy and business. HM PM has made an excellent choice.
OTTAWA — Nigel Wright, one of the key dealmakers in the Onex Corp. empire, is leaving Bay Street behind to become the Prime Minister’s chief of staff.
Mr. Wright’s appointment, made public Friday, has caused a stir in Ottawa — but sources say this has been months in the making. The Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, has been in talks with Mr. Wright for the last six to eight weeks in an effort to persuade the dealmaker to become his top advisor.

A Life in the Theater
I attended the David Mamet play A Life in the Theatre with Sir Patrick Stewart and T.R. Knight from Grey's Anatomy. ( read the play here). It is a 2 man comedy about life in the theater. It is a comedy about a younger actor and an older actor. It is about experience, life, the theater and much more. It was great one and hour hours of theater. It was funny, poignant and very entertaining. If you have a chance go see it.
After the performance I waited and met both actors. I congratulated Sir Patrick on his great performance and told him that I had seen him in Waiting for Godot. He asked me where and I said London. Both actors signed my program. It was a wonderful evening. i actually met Captain Picard!

Raw Milk
My friend Karen Selick, head of litigation at the CCF, has a great piece in the Globe today. If raw milk is good enough for Our Sovereign Lady, it is good enough for Canadians. It is more petty bureaucratic nonsense. Three cheers for the Canadian Constitution Foundation who fights this kind bureaucratic nonsense and much more. Donate to the CCF. They fight for your freedom.
Queen Elizabeth drinks her milk raw. She reportedly thinks so highly of unpasteurized milk that, when her grandsons Princes William and Harry were students at Eton, she instructed herdsman Adrian Tomlinson to bottle up raw milk from her Windsor herd and deliver it to them at school.
Canadians, however, are not permitted to emulate their head of state. Raw milk cannot legally be sold in Canada, except into government-authorized “supply management” cartels, where it goes to be pasteurized. Only those who happen to own their own cow can legally consume raw milk.
A group of some 450 B.C. city-dwellers thought they had a solution. They organized Home on the Range Dairy, and jointly acquired a herd of 25 cows. They hired farmer Alice Jongerden to look after their cows – feed them, milk them, bottle the milk and make it available to its owners.
This type of livestock boarding contract has long been known to English law. In fact, there’s even a special name for it: agistment, the taking in of livestock to graze on your land in exchange for payment. Ms. Jongerden is called an agister.

iffy wants Canada to fail
When it comes to such issues as a seat on the Security Council, one would think that politics would be trumped by loyalty to one's Country. Not so for iffy. I am shocked to say this. Kudos to Bob Rae for understanding that we are all Canadians. iffy is not a leader. iffy is still just visiting.
Michael Ignatieff, Monday, commenting on Canada’s bid for a Security Council seat:
“This is a government that for four years has basically ignored the United Nations and now is suddenly showing up saying, 'Hey, put us on the council … Don't mistake me. I know how important it is for Canada to get a seat on the Security Council but Canadians have to ask a tough question: Has this government earned that place? We're not convinced it has.”

money from forced student contributions. Not sure how this happened. Why not a mandatory contribution to the Fraser institute, something I would not support. The left seems to think it should be government funded or funded by forced contributions like in the case of unions. Some of my young friends at McGill are courageously trying to get students to opt out of this forced contribution.
The qprig people seem to object to free speech and have responded with violence and vandalism. Again why are these people being funded with forced contributions?
Eventually, the crowd of QPIRG members swelled to around 10. QPIRG members began to hand out their own flyers, even going so far as to block members of the Opt-Out Campaign from distributing flyers. McGill Security was contacted, and QPIRG was told to maintain a reasonable distance from the Opt-Out Campaign.
While the situation stabilized, it eventually deteriorated when Maddie Ritts (a member of QPIRG’s Board of Directors) stormed up to the Opt-Out table and proceeded to steal and violently rip several posters. Security caught several people, and a report has been filed with administration. McGill Security is still looking for Maddie Ritts, who left the scene.

mallick double agent??
A funny blogpost via BCF.
The lefties in Toronto are becoming truly desperate. heather mallick, never the brightest bulb, has gone crazy over this. Rob Ford will be Mayor.
Heather Mallick: Agent Provocateur?
A lot of people have been observing recently that crazed, histrionic attacks in the media on Toronto mayoral Candidate Rob Ford are actually driving his support up.
The most egregious example is the demented column by Heather Mallick in al-Starzeera (The Toronto Star) where she equates the city's support for Ford to a drunken one-night stand, which she describes in all-too-graphic, sexualized detail.

How else to explain his rec ent statements acknowledfging communism doesn't work. ( Something justing trudeau and his relatives won't admit). Now he says Israel has the right to exist. The left will go mental over this and will begin their attacks.

NEW YORK (AFP) – Fidel Castro, the longtime president and leftist icon who stepped aside during a health crisis but still leads the Cuban Communist Party, has told a reporter that Israel definitely has the right to exist.
"Yes it does, without a doubt," Castro, 84, told visiting US journalist Jeffrey Goldberg of the Atlantic magazine, according to a new article published Wednesday.

Good news in Manitoba
A new poll in Manitoba has the provincial Tories with a big lead. Hopefully the ndp will be toast in the next election.
Manitoba's governing NDP is in danger of losing its decade-long grip on power in the province.
The Progressive Conservative Party is leading the NDP in support, according to an Angus Reid public opinion poll released Tuesday.
Just 34 per cent of respondents in the poll stated they would support the NDP, which has governed since 1999, if a provincial election was to be held immediately.
Meanwhile, 49 per cent of respondents would vote for the Conservatives.

Canada boycotts the little dictator
Good for HM Government! HM Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Canadian delegation walked on the un speech of the rabid anti semite from Iran.
NEW YORK — Canadian diplomats at the United Nations, including Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon, boycotted a speech Tuesday by the president of Iran.
In recent years Canadian officials, along with those from other Western nations, have made a show of walking out on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad whenever he addresses the UN General Assembly.
It's meant as a form of protest against Iran's human rights record and controversial nuclear program.
"Past speeches by the Iranian president in UN fora have contained elements of Holocaust denial, anti-Semitism and condemnation of Israel," Cannon said in a statement.

Jonathan Kay on the vile heather mallick
heather mallick is a vile human being with a foul mouth and a polluted mind. When criticized she plays the race card or cries some feminist clap trap.
She continually plays the victim. She is weak and pathetic. When her arguments are destroyed she cries that opeople are mean to her.
Jonathan Kay calls her out for the latest feacl material that has left her brain. I suspect even the red star will have to fire her. before she attacks me, I weill have to inform her that I was born in India, so her race hustling will mean nothing to me. Not sure why this vile witch still lives in canad. She hates canad so very much. Well heather many Canadians reciprocate those feelings. Perhaps you should move to Noryh Korea. You would feel right at home there.
Jonathan Kay on Heather Mallick’s bizarre obsession with feminist self-pity and bad sex
Several people have emailed me a link to Heather Mallick’s column about Rob Ford in today’s Toronto Star, claiming that it’s her most disgusting piece of writing ever. I’ll admit that there’s a strong argument for this: Mallick’s column is based around the idea that voting in Rob Ford as Toronto’s mayor would somehow be akin to a desperate female bar-fly having a blind-drunk one-night stand with an oaf she meets at closing time. Much of the column is composed of a sort of reverie in which Mallick describes this hypothetical drunken episode. She gets back to Ford in the last few paragraphs, but it feels tacked on.
For those keeping track at home, Mallick already has flamed out of a few media outlets. She had gigs at the Globe & Mail and the CBC, writing more or less this same awkward mix of left-wing politics and TMI personal reflection. She also has written for Britain’s Guardian — a prestigious perch that this great patriot has used to denounce her own country as a despicable hell hole. She whines constantly — both in her column and in real life. During the only substantial conversation I ever had with her, she lamented to me that Globe & Mail readers didn’t deserve her because they couldn’t understand how “a socialist could like to have beautiful things.”

Black jacques chirac to be tried
I never thought I would see this happen. I am not a fan of chirac. His anti americanism was sickening.
The 77-year-old, whose presidency of France ran from 1995 until 2007, could face a ten-year prison sentence and 150,000-euro (£130,000) fine if found guilty. He will be the first modern French leader to face a corruption trial.
Mr Chirac faces charges of abuse of public funds while he was mayor of Paris. It is alleged that he paid 21 allies for doing non-existent jobs as part of his drive for power in the 1990s. Last month, the Socialist mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, agreed to drop the town hall's civil lawsuit against Mr Chirac in exchange for 2.2 million euros – the amount of taxpayer's money it claimed was misused.

Joseph Quesnel on the Indian Act
My friend Joseph Quesnel on reforming the Indian Act. As anyone who reads this blog knows, I am very supportive of our Native fellow citizens. The Indian Act has infantilized Native people and cost billions of dollars, while leaving many Natives in abject poverty. I agree with allowing more autonomy and getting rid of much of the Indian Industry. Since I also believe the Treaties with the Crown are a sacred, I have urged for some time to take the $10 billion of spent on INAC and give it as a monthly stipend to individual Natives. I also support Tom Flanagan in saying that title to Native Land should be returned to Natives. It is unacceptable that many native people live quiet lives of misery. They must be encouraged to pursue education and encouraged to participate in Canada's economic life. That is how every group of immigrants to this land have succeeded. The paternalism of the state has been a major factor in keeping Native people in Canada and American blacks in poverty. Government has most certainly not been the solution, but a major part of the problem.
This is a critical discussion, and Atleo is courageous for tackling it publicly and at such a high level.
First Nation leaders have been calling for the end of the Indian Act for decades.
Just as observers in Old Europe knew there were problems with the Divine Right of Kings, aristocracy and feudalism, it is widely recognized that the act is paternalistic, distorts First Nation democracy and locks reserves out of the economy. But to avoid the kinds of shocks experienced in Old Europe, First Nation citizens, policy makers and governments must carefully think about what would actually fill the vacuum left by any winding up of the Indian Act.
Some modern cautionary tales include Quebec, which underwent rapid change in the 1960s during the Quiet Revolution. At first, the liberal reforms were good, but eventually they replaced Catholic paternalism with state paternalism. Quebec is only starting to realize the pernicious economic effects of this model. Similarly, Russia's collectivist culture was not prepared for the privatizations of the 1990s, and corrupt commissars have been replaced with corrupt oligarchs.
Recognizing problems is only the start of useful reform. The real challenge is replacing the Indian Act with something that's actually better.

More trouble for charest and the grits
The grits in Quebec have been successfully attacking Marc Bellmare ( the grit apointed Justice Minister). Unfortunately for charest and the grits there is corroboration. charest is still doing very badly in the polls. I will never vote for the socialist pq, so the logical alternative is the center right ADQ. It's time for a new broom to sweep clean.
After the Liberals came to power in April 2003, Mr. Lalande was named an associate deputy minister in the Justice Department, responsible for overseeing reforms to the province’s administrative tribunals. It was in that capacity that he would regularly meet Franco Fava, a major Liberal fundraiser who was also plugged in with the provincial workers’ compensation board.
In his agenda for July 8, 2003, Mr. Lalande noted a lunch with Mr. Fava at the latter’s preferred Quebec City restaurant, Michelangelo. He wrote a detailed account of Mr. Fava’s grievances: “Marc Bellemare does not understand that we need to appoint our friends, in Justice just like everywhere else. They’re beating down the doors after nine years in opposition.” Mr. Fava complained that Mr. Bellemare insisted on stubbornly playing the straight arrow.
Mr. Lalande testified that Mr. Fava mentioned the fact that he raised $1-million a year for the provincial Liberal party. He said Mr. Fava was prepared to allow Mr. Bellemare to make “a few nominations,” including the chief judge of Quebec Court and one or two others. But Mr. Fava wanted a say in other nominations to the court and to other tribunals. He said he met regularly with Chantal Landry, who was in charge of political nominations in Mr. Charest’s office, to discuss lists of appointees.

GoProud vs Farah of WND
My GoProud friends debated Joseph Farah of WND. Farah objects to a gay conservative group ( actually to any kind of gays). I think my GoProud friends did really well in the debate. I look forward to seeing them at HOMOCON 2010 ( of which I am a co sponsor).
For a guy who says he plans to fight “the homosexual agenda” “until the last breath” and thinks God will “collapse” America for accepting gay marriage, WorldNetDaily editor Joseph Farah sure has been doing a lot of gay media lately.
Farah appeared on two radio shows that are hosted by gay talk show personalities this week to blast Ann Coulter for headlining an upcoming party sponsored by GOProud, an organization that represents gay conservatives. Farah dropped Coulter from a speaking engagement at WND’s annual conference in September because of her involvement with GOProud. Coulter retorted last week by calling Farah a “swine” and a “publicity whore.”
In response, Farah appeared on The Steve Yuhas Show Sunday and then gave an interview to host Michelangelo Signorile on Sirius’ gay themed channel, “OutQ” the next day. Farah told Signorile that he was fed up with the conservative movement, and criticized conservatives for embracing members of the gay community who share beliefs on issues like taxes, health care and the role of government.
“This is my beef with conservatism: it’s always losing ground,” Farah told Signorile. “That’s why I don’t consider myself a conservative.”
Farah added that he never would have asked Coulter to speak at his event if he knew that she would show support to gay conservatives by speaking at one of their events.
“I guess you could say Ann Coulter had me fooled,” he said.

The King's Speech a fan favourite
As I said when I gave my review of this movie, I think it will win several Oscars.
The King's Speech' named fan favorite at festival
– Mon Sep 20, 5:59 am ET
TORONTO – "The King's Speech" was crowned the fan favorite at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, a possible precursor to an Academy Award nomination.
The British/Australian film is a critically acclaimed portrait of a stammering monarch preparing for war. It stars Colin Firth as King George VI, Geoffrey Rush as his Australian speech therapist and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen Mother.
It won the Cadillac People's Choice Award as the most popular film. The festival itself doesn't give out awards, but there are a few awards from sponsor companies.
The film festival's director, Piers Handling, predicted Oscar nominations for the three leads and a possible best picture slot for Tom Hooper's film, noting it garnered steady attention throughout the 11-day movie festival that ended Sunday.
"So many people were talking about that film during the festival," said Handling, noting that previous audience-pleasers including "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" and "Slumdog Millionaire" went on to multiple Academy Award nominations.

Lorne Gunter on Artic Sea Ice
Inspite of being repeatedly proven wrong, the chicken littles continue their cry. Lorne Gunter inserts some climate realism
Lorne Gunter: Good news on polar ice melt you may have missed
Lorne Gunter September 20, 2010 – 6:18 am
You’ve almost certainly seen reports that the melt of Arctic sea ice this year, while not as great as the melts in 2008 and 2007, is nonetheless continuing the “death spiral” of Arctic ice. What I’m betting you haven’t seen, though, are any reports on a study released last week by Dutch and American scientists that shows the icecaps over Greenland and Western Antarctica are receding far more slowly than most global-warming scientists had thought.

The Equality myth
Apparently liberals believe that having rich people in society is bad, Rich people should have their wealth confiscated and given to less productive people in society. Peter Foster has a good piece that these theories are good for no one including the poor.
Liberals promote primitive, economically challenged assumptions for political ends
‘Why don’t Americans pay more attention to growing income disparity?” asked Timothy Noah in a piece in last Wednesday’s Post. Terence Corcoran established Thursday that Mr. Noah’s claim of “growing disparity” is essentially a crock, but that claim invites more probing questions: Why are modern liberals obsessed with income inequality (to the point of cooking the books), and why do they claim that it is unequivocally “bad” and almost invariably getting “worse?”
Inequality of income and wealth is inevitable under a system of relatively free enterprise because people have different talents, ambitions and drives. Given capital accumulation, mass production and extensive markets, it is possible for individuals to become fabulously wealthy on the basis of ideas alone. Thus it was with Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller and Henry Ford. Thus it is with Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and the likes of Canada’s Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis. Such individuals create jobs, wealth and tax revenue. Their wealth is not earned “at the expense” of anybody else, except unsuccessful competitors. And yet the inevitable “inequality” created by these men, and other talented and entrepreneurial individuals, is constantly bemoaned as a moral blight and a potential danger. Inequality is confuted with inequity.

3 Billion and Counting
A new movie called 3 Billion and Counting is a total indictment of some environmental junk science. It seems many environmentalists may claim to love the earth, but they don't like people very much.It was reviewed in the National Review.
National Review has a column reviewing a new book, 3 Billion and Counting, that dissects the harsh human cost of banning DDT. There are things that should be banned, of course, but such decisions should be based on sound science and cost-benefit analysis. Sadly, that’s not what happened with the politically-motivated decision to ban this particular pesticide.

Monster convicted
as I have said before my family last many friends in the bombing of Air India Flight 182. Those who plotted this obscenity walk free. They will one day face their maker and be damned. The only scum convicted in this act of terrorism has now been convicted of perjury. He justlty deserves to die in prison or worse. How this creature sleeps at night is beyond me. He can be sentenced ro 14 years. This unrepentant coward should serve every day of that unless. If this creature had an ounce of decency in him he would reveal his fellow conspirators.
Canadian convicted of lying in Air India bomb case
Sat Sep 18, 5:52 PM
By Allan Dowd
VANCOUVER (Reuters) - A Canadian man who admitted helping make the bomb that destroyed Air India Flight 182 was found guilty of perjury on Saturday during the trial of two other men accused of history's deadliest airline bombing.
Inderjit Singh Reyat sat passively in the prisoner's box as the jury in Vancouver delivered its verdict after more than two days of deliberations. He later gave a short wave to family members as he was escorted from the courtroom into custody.
Reyat was convicted of lying in the trial of two other Canadian men charged with murder for bombing Air India Flight 182, which exploded over the Atlantic Ocean in 1985, killing 329 people

Banana Shpeel
I went to see Cirque de Soleil's Banana Shpeel at the Canon Theater. It got really bad reviews when it opened in Chicago. The show was apparently totally reworked. I did enjoy the various acts, but the comedy segments between the acts were pretty lame. I would like more of the Russian pole dancer, the Chinese contortionists and the Spanish acrobat and far less of Schmelky and the clowns. there was far too much talking and the attempts at humour generally failed.

Prof Mansur and the jihadi threat
another great piece by my friend Salim Mansur. He correctly points that the perpetually outraged just use fools like the Florida pastor as an excuse. The real threat is the jihadis.
Over the past few weeks the mainstream media in the U.S. provided a textbook lesson of how to inflate an obscure story, and by implication suggest an overwhelming majority of Americans are perilously close to being bigots in opposing the building of the Ground Zero mosque in New York City.
Terry Jones, a Christian minister of a small church in Gainesville, Fla., threatened to burn copies of the Qur’an on the ninth anniversary of 9/11. After much pleading by just about everyone of any importance in America, the minister relented. The fear of worldwide Muslim rage seemingly abated.
Jones, according to Andrew McCarthy — the former assistant U.S. attorney who prosecuted Omar Abdel-Rahman, the notorious Egyptian-born blind sheikh, for his involvement with Islamist terrorists in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center — writing in National Review, is “obviously a nincompoop.”
The mainstream media coverage Jones received, however, was scandalously disproportionate to his demented idea of making a statement against Islam by burning the Qur’an. It was also disingenuous of the media reporting the sight of Jones burning the Qur’an would enrage most Muslims just about everywhere.
Those Muslims in the Arab-Muslim world who would be enraged can be counted on to rage on any excuse as part of an orchestrated effort by government-controlled mosques and political parties.
But to countless Muslims everywhere who are not readily heard from, the conduct of a Terry Jones would merely reflect the thinking of one sick individual and nothing more. They are more sickened by, and more fearful of, the daily outrageous behaviour of fellow Muslims, and hence they are more intimidated by Muslim fanaticism on the one side and despotic governments on the other than by some nincompoop burning the Qur’an.

Governor Palin in Iowa
I am not at all sure that Governor Palin is the best choice to be US President, but I do enjoy her chutzpah and her ability to take on the msm. I like Sarah Palin. She and her husband are utterly charming in person. Here is her Iowa speech for the Reagan Dinner.

Islamophobia?
A good piece in the NP. Legitimate concerns about the jihadi threat are not Islamophobia. Indeed these calls of Islamophobia are also meant to silence Muslimsw ho fight the jihadi threat like my friends Salim Mansur, Tarek Fatah and Raheel Raza.
We Americans should be ashamed! What an intolerant, bigoted, hateful lot we are! Or so we are being told by our political and media elites. Lawrence Wright, in The New Yorker -- yes, The New Yorker-- announces: "Culture wars are currently being waged against Muslim Americans across the country." Are they really? The crowds in Kandahar and Karachi will be most interested to hear that.
Even on Fox -- yes, Fox -- Chris Wallace talked last weekend of "growing anti-Islamic feeling in this country." Excuse me, but where's the evidence?
In recent days, we've been told that it's in a new Washington Post/ ABC News poll showing 49% of respondents holding an "unfavourable" opinion of Islam. At first glance, that does seem disturbing. But take the trouble to actually examine the poll and a very different picture emerges.

Terry Fox
I am in total awe of Terry Fox. He is a Canadian hero. Give money to someone who is running this weekend.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today paid tribute to Canadian hero Terry Fox by visiting the Terry Fox Monument near Thunder Bay. The Prime Minister’s visit comes just ahead of the 30th annual Terry Fox Run, taking place in communities across Canada on September 19th, 2010.
“Terry Fox is a true Canadian hero,” said Prime Minister Harper. “In his Marathon of Hope and determination to find a cure for cancer, he embodied values that Canadians hold dear such as courage, optimism and an unfailing belief that ordinary Canadians can achieve extraordinary things.”
The Terry Fox Monument was erected near the site outside Thunder Bay where Terry Fox ended his Marathon of Hope on September 1st, 1980. He passed away on June 28th, 1981. The monument, with its view of Lake Superior, is a moving tribute to Terry Fox’s incredible courage and his journey, which lasted 143 days and covered 5,373 kilometres.
“The image of Terry Fox running along Canada’s highways is forever etched in the memories of those who witnessed it in person or through the power of film and television,” continued the Prime Minister. “On September 19th, I encourage Canadians to once again carry on where Terry left off and run to fight cancer.”

commie monsters
Four more khmer rouge killers have been indicted. They should just be dropped into a tank of man eating pirhanas. Unfortunately the monster mao got away with his millions of murders. Remember the victims of communism. Donate to Tribute to Liberty.
tuition
I once again agree with my friend Tasha. I think the particularly low tuitions in Quebec are ridiculous. In my case because of some scholarships, McGill for five years including books cost less than $5000. I have donated far more to the Alma Mater over the 25 years since my graduation.
Tuitions should continue to rise. The user should pay. More fundraising from aulmni and other sources is also a good idea.
It’s back-to-school time – and back-to-whining time for some university students. Their beef? Tuition has increased this year by – gasp! – 4%, to an average of $5,138, compared with $4,942 in 2009, when fees were up 3.6 per cent.
Apparently this latest increase is too much for students to take:
“Canada is on the verge of bankrupting a generation,”
intoned David Molenhuis, national chairman of the Canadian Federation of Students, an interest group representing 80 student unions across the country.
In Quebec, where students consistently have the lowest tuition fees, averaging $2,415, the outrage is similar. Tuition is up 4.6 per cent over the previous year. In response, Louis-Philippe Savoie, president of the Federation universitaire bemoaned the fact that Quebec schools had increased tuition for four straight years now, while several Atlantic provinces had either frozen or lowered their fees (of course, he neglected to mention that Quebec’s tuition had been previously frozen for twelve years, at 1994 levels).

Horror
A modern day Medea. May she suffer the rest of her life in prison. She is an abomination against motherhood.
BARRIE, Ont. - Minutes after a mother calmly called police saying her children were dead, officers found 19-month-old Sophia Campione in bed, dressed in her Tinkerbell pyjamas, holding hands with her three-year-old sister Serena, court heard Thursday.
Between their lifeless bodies lay a photo album and a rosary.
The Crown alleges their mother, Frances Elaine Campione, 35, drowned them in October 2006 so their father could not get custody.
A videotape was found in the room with the girls' bodies that showed Campione addressing the camera and speaking as if she and her daughters were dead, Crown attorney Enno Meijers said in his opening statement to the jury.
"There, are you happy?" Meijers said Campione says on the video, which the jury will later be shown.
"Everything's gone. Gone... God's taking care of them now ... There is no way I could have them with you.

Flat Tax
Interesting article by Terence Corcoran on taxes and income. I am not a big fan of the progressive income tax. Our ridiculously complicated tax code costs billions of dollars to collect taxes. Why should higher income earnesr shoulder so much more ofthe nations expenses? Doesn't that just reduce productivity and cause the very rich to flee or otherwise alter behaviour to the detriment of the Country? I think Canada would be better off with a flat tax.
For several years now the American left has been fixated on the idea that the United States has become a divided nation in which an aristocracy of the rich, the super rich and the stinking rich have subjugated the poor, the middle class and everybody else, turning America into the equivalent of some pre-Robespierreian France. This Marxist class war message was embedded in President Barack Obama’s first budget: “For the better part of three decades, a disproportionate share of the nation’s wealth has been accumulated by the very wealthy.”
The basis for that claim and others in the Obama budget is the work of Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez, two economists who in recent years have become the darlings of activists and politicians whose prime aim appears to be to foment class envy and promote new higher tax rates and bigger government. One of their graphs appeared in the Obama budget, apparently showing that the “top 1% of earners have been increasing their share of national income” to the point where the stinking rich 1% earn 20% of the total, double their share from 10% in 1980.

Quebec grits and the ethnic vote
Others have said it before because of the yes /no debate, most Quebec anglos and allophones vote grit in large numbers. Inspite of this fact the Quebec government totally ignores these groups. The ADQ is not interested in endless referendums. It has a solid center right platform. Anglos and Allophones should consider this option. The grits need to be reminded not to take people for granted. At this point these communities are the hostage of jean charest and his grits.
And it might not be a coincidence, either, that in general elections since Charest became premier, the decline in turnout in non-francophone Liberal seats has been significantly greater than average.
In some ridings, such as D'Arcy-McGee, Mont-Royal and Westmount-Saint-Louis, the participation rates declined at up to twice the province-wide rate between the 2003 and 2008 general elections.
This period has seen repeated betrayals and insults of non-francophone voters by Charest and his government, including the rigged demerger process led by Fournier as municipal affairs minister and the snubs to the English school board chairs.
To its non-francophone captive supporters, the Quebec Liberal Party has become little more than a legal, political racket offering them protection against the election of a Parti Quebecois government, and watered-down versions of PQ policies.
That, and money from affluent, self-interested contributors expecting access and favours in return, now appear to be mainly what's holding the QLP together.
More non-francophones are refusing to pay up in votes. Happily for Charest's Soprano-like crew, however, the PQ remains a serious enough threat to keep the rest sending Liberals like Fournier to the Assembly.

A Little ice age?
Lawrence Solomon has an interesting article on sunspots climate change. It would be good if scientists were exploring all possibilities.
Lawrence Solomon: Chilling evidence
Lawrence Solomon September 16, 2010
Two years ago, William Livingston and Matthew Penn of the National Solar Observatory in Tucson, in a controversial paper that contradicted conventional wisdom and upset global warming theorists, predicted that sunspots could more or less disappear after 2015, possibly indicating the onset of another Little Ice Age.

Kory Teneycke
I saw the very surprising news that Kory is leaving Sun News TV. Kory is an amazing, very intelligent guy and I have no doubt he will succeed in whatever he does. I am not that happy that he is leaving SunTv News, but I am sure he knows what is best. I wish my friend Kory only good things for him and his family. I must say this does make a bit less enthusiastic about the project, which I am assured will continue under the capable guidance of Luc Lavoie.
OTTAWA — Kory Teneycke, the mastermind behind Sun TV News Channel, has resigned.
Mr. Teneycke, Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s former director of communications, said Wednesday he decided to resign because it had become clear his involvement in Sun TV would only “inflame” the controversy over the channel, dubbed “Fox News North” by its critics.

Dr Petit Relives the horror
On of my colleagues in the US had the most horrific experience. His family was murdered. I never met Dr Petit, but we are both endocrinologist of about the same age. We are both members of AACE. This story very much upset me. These vermin deserve the maximum penalty.

NEW HAVEN -- He heard someone moaning, quietly, one floor up. He heard the intruder's voice answering, "Don't worry. It's going to be over in a couple of minutes." He heard what he described as an ominous "Pssssh. Pssssh. Pssssh" -- the sound, it turned out, of spraying gasoline.
Dr. William Petit, sole survivor of a Connecticut home invasion that left his wife and two girls slaughtered in his flame-engulfed home, took the stand this morning in the murder trial of the first of the crime's two alleged attackers.
He describing for the first time what he heard -- as he lay bound, sightless and helpless --of his family's nightmare of rape, arson and death.

Cool It
Bjorn Lomborg wants to tone done the global warmist hysteria. Indeed he spoke about the good things that could happen because of global warming when I heard him speak in Montreal. He actually believes in global warming but has a much more reasoned approach to it. He now has a movie. I don't altogether agree with Lomborg, but he is a reasonable person to talk to. His movie which premiered at TIFF should be very interesting.
One cool movie
Peter Foster, Financial Post · Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010
Danish "skeptical environmentalist" Bjorn Lomborg is at least as charismatic as Al Gore and far more personable. Cool It, the film about Mr. Lomborg's crusade to bring some rationality to the climate change issue -- which premiered on Sunday night at the Toronto International Film Festival -- is also every bit as well done as An Inconvenient Truth, the Oscar-winning movie about Mr. Gore's ghastly but self-interested psychic projections.
Every schoolchild who was forced to watch Mr. Gore's apocalyptic whoppers should also be given the opportunity to see Cool It, which presents a balanced and convincing case against doom and gloom.
The movie starts by demonstrating the disgraceful way in which children in the West have been terrorized by -- and used for -- catastrophic propaganda. It also cleverly uses bright-eyed poor kids in an African school to highlight aspirations that for the foreseeable future can only be fed by fossil fuels.
An Inconvenient Truth was essentially an Al Gore road trip. Cool It, while it similarly shows Mr. Lomborg on the lecture circuit, features many more interviews with experts who debunk Gore-ish catastrophism on rising sea levels, spreading disease, and polar bear deaths. Nevertheless, alarmists such as (the late) Stephen Schneider (to whom, for some inexplicable reason, the film is dedicated) and James Hansen are also given time in front of the camera.
The film-- whose title comes from a book by Mr. Lomborg -- notes how the erudite Dane came to his skepticism after reading an article by American economist Julian Simon that debunked many doomster claims and economic myths. Mr. Lomborg was offended and set his students to check out Prof. Simon's work. He discovered that it was mostly true: things were not getting perpetually worse, but better. He published a book, The Skeptical Environmentalist, based on these thoroughly researched findings. It drew torrents of abuse and accusations of "intellectual dishonesty" from a branch of the Danish government, which relied for ammunition on the mainly U.S.-based environmental establishment. These accusations were subsequently proved to be not only without merit, but without content.
