The Tory Fundraising Juggernaut

An analysis by the Ottawa Citizen show the Tories are still trouncing the grits. Less people are donating to the grits even in grit strongholds. The dippers are also doing a lot better.
No wonder republican rocco rossi left the sinking ship.

Tories increase donation edge over Liberals

Elections Canada data released this week show the Conservative party's fund-raising machine has this year outperformed the Liberals in Ontario and pulled even in Quebec.

While the amount of money donated to the two parties dropped in the first quarter of 2010, a Citizen analysis of contribution reports shows the Tories continue to raise more cash in the traditional Liberal stronghold provinces.

From contributors who gave more than $200, the Tories boosted their take in every province, except for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, compared to last year.

At the same time, total contributions from these larger-value donors to the Liberals fell in all but three provinces.

Liberals saw a $100,000 drop in funds raised in Quebec during the first three months of the year, compared to the same period in 2009. Over the reporting period, larger donations to the Liberals from Quebec dropped to $85,000, while the Tories bumped up by about 53 per cent to pull close to even.

I may be a little cynical here, but has anyone else noticed that the Conservatives are always being accused of being 'for big business' but when the financing was changed to disallow corporate donations the Liberals tanked?

Sort of confirms the theory form Ann Coulter in which 'you always know what a liberal is thinking, cause its what he's blaming you for'.

I'll bet if it was studied, most of the Conservative donations were small, single donations from individuals, and the libby's max from corporations, or self loans.

Just sayin.

"As bad as the data is for the Liberals, the Q1 returns show a surge in financial support for the New Democrats. The party posted a 67-per-cent year-over-year increase in funds raised in B.C., Ontario and Saskatchewan."

This is an example of lazy journalism. The first quarter of 2009, the NDP put a halt on fund raising so that the provincial NDP parties wouldn't have to compete for the same donors in an election year. This was mainly the case in BC and Nova Scotia. The NDP numbers are that much different from before.
