My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this brave young man. He died for Canada and freedom. He will never be forgotten.
Twenty-six year old Courcy was a member of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal 22e Regiment, also known as the Van Doos.
Courcy was described as a "fine soldier" by his commander Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance.
"Sebastien gave his life for Canada. Such is the price soldiers must sometimes pay to honour their obligation to their country and to the missions set before them," Vance said during a news conference.
Vance said Courcy arrived in Afghanistan in April.
"Rest in peace Sebastien. We will remember you," Vance said in a traditional farewell to a fallen soldier.
Courcy is survived by his mother, Ginette, and his sister Julie.

Yes it is sad. I will pray for his Family.
Go to the National Defence site (Write to the Troops) and leave a message of support for the troops.
Cousin,
The last time we met, during the new year party at sister’s house, you looked so proud and happy to be part of the Canadian military, this is all you talked about all night. You really looked forward into going to Afghanistan and, I remember sharing with you my concerns and telling you how worried and scared I was about my little cousin going to Afghanistan. You really believed in the cause and am proud with sadness to know that you died fighting for something you believed in.
I am proud to read that you were a “fine soldier” but, deep inside me know that the word “excellent” would have been more appropriate
Rest in peace cousin and never will I forget you, little cousin Sebastien
Please people don’t forget is father “Uncle Marc”, his name was not mentioned and He is probably living hell right now from the loss of is son.
My condolences to tante Ginette, cousine Julie et Oncle Marc.
Dominic Courcy
