Dalai Lama
DHARMSALA, India — Chinese rule in Tibet has created a "hell on earth" that has caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Tibetans, the Dalai Lama said Tuesday in a speech to mark the 50th anniversary of the failed uprising that sent him into exile.

Speaking to thousands of supporters, the Tibetan spiritual leader said Chinese martial law, and hard-line policies such as the Cultural Revolution, had devastated the Himalayan region.

It is another reason why I like Harper, he openly speaks about the authoritarian/totalitarian regime that China is. He was not afraid to meet the Dalai Llama while Martin would only meet him in private and Chretien refused to meet him at all.

The last week saw the Communist China propaganda machine pumping out stories day after day in the MSM and of course the Toronto Red Star that Canada was jeopardizing trade relations with China because of it's stand on human rights. Even the Liberals pumped out a few stories (Bob Rae, a few lefty academics, and others from the Liberal stacked China Canada Business Council) -- funny how Power Corporation and other companies owned by big-name Liberals have so many trade interests in China including Paul Martin's Canada Steamship Lines HQ is now in Shanghai.

China needs our raw goods, energy, and access to our market place with their tainted goods more than we need them. Liberal Team Canada missions were always about exporting Jobs to China rather than Human Rights and Dignity.

Funny how all those [strike]anti-Jew, anti-Israeli racist madmen[/strike] nice people who care about human rights don't have a 'Chinese oppression week'... (And, even if they did, that would still be no excuse for inciting violent assaults on university students who are of Chinese background, or yelling racist abuse at people of Chinese background.)

How are we any better?, Is there really anything in China we actually need?.
Why do we do business with a totalitarian regime?
I remember a Canada pre 1968 that would not sell it's values of freedom for profit or trade.
Action and not words impress me, Globalization is a farce of profit over conscience.
