My afternoon with Mark Steyn and the Free Speech Gang

As you have probably noticed, I have had a very Busy few days. I have yet to blog about my day at the Environmental Studies conference. I will have to do that later. Today was a day with Mark Steyn. As i told you yesterday I had already met Mark Steyn yetserday at the King Edward Hotel. Today Kathy , Wendy, Mike Brock and some new friends met up with Mark Steyn in the basement of Queen's Park. It was a jovial band of free speech believers and we were with a true friend of freedom.
We all went to see Mark give a stellar performance in front of an Ontario legislative committee on the Ontario HRC.
You can read his statement here. He was great answering the MPP Questions. The Tory MPPs get it. Especially MPP Lisa Mcleod( she is a great MPP). Unfortunately NDP MPP Cheri Denovo and the liberal MPP Zimmer really didn't get it. They are consumed by the tyranny of nice. Steyn ran circles around them. After the half hour allotted , we all left when the hopeless >Terry Downie(elmo's pal) started to speak. There was a lively discussion outside of the Amethyst room of the legislature. Mark Steyn believes in the Common law which has an 800 year tradition of individual rights. Unfortunately the whole premise of the hrcs and communism is group rights. Someone asked how we can continue this battle and Mark said we must continue to judicially fly in the face of this unjust tribunal, but do that judiciously.
We all retired to an Irish bar( I had gingerale) where we had a great and lively discusssion on everything from the stimulus to the butts of various animals and of course musicals. Ironically the Bar's name is. Pogue Mahone. Mike Brock tells me it is an alias that has used by Richard Warman, the hypersensitive, lawsuit happy lawyer.
I am very tired , but quite pleased with my last 6 days. It was great to be in the company of so many who believe in free speech and freedom in general. I truly believe that freedom is a gift from God and we must cherish it and fight to maintain it.

I'm really passionate about freedom. It's clear that you are too.

In your travels, have you come across the notion of "Freedom from..."?

I'm glad you and other bloggers are there to give us the run down and lend Mark moral support. Steyn is very eloquent and i support him to the hilt.

Thanks Mike. I have heard of that mostly in the context of freedom from religion, but for me God is a liberating force.:)

Today was such an awesome day. I'm so glad we could all get together for a chat when the session was over.
