I got to talk to the US army deserters, Corey Glass and Mr Lundy(?) on Legal Briefs on Court TV Canada. They were discusiing the resolution I blogged about yesterday. I toldthem as an ordinary Canadian I wanted all US deserters deported. I said they were volunteers. They kept saying they were tricked.My main point is why don't they return to the US and fight this in their own country. Take it to court. The guests did not really answer my questions. They kept saying it was an illegal war. So I guess now the soldiers should pick and choose their assignments now.
The callers were divided, but more , especially the younger ones, wanted these two criminals to stay in Canada. Then there was Olivia Chow, the sponsor of this motion, who seemed enthralled by deserters. I guess since the NDP base is full of Vietnam draft dodgers, I can see where she is coming from. One of the lefties that called said that 9/11 was planned by the Bush Administration. There were several callers, even a grit, who wanted these deserters returned to the US.
I am pretty sure HM Government will reject the motion by the opposition parties and the deserters will be returned to the United States to face justice.

These guys were tricked alright, but it was their own duplicity that did the tricking. They thought they could get a free education at the tax payers expense and the only cost to them would be some basic training. They tricked themselves into believing that they would never have to live up to their end of the bargain. The sooner they get sent bck the better.
