Even more on Bill C-484 and the FMSQ

I am in Winnipeg for a few days for the annual meeting of Civitas. Dr Gaetan bareete of the FMSQ, returned my call today.
I expressed my great displeasure with the FMSQ position on Bill C-484. When I said he had not consulted the members he said the FMSQ is a representative organization and he did say their were doctors who did not agree with the FMSQ position , in his statements to the press. He said that most of the feedback he's had for the members mirrored his own position. The association of Ob /Gynes are the ones who brought this up. The impression of Dr Barette and the Obs is that this is a way to eventually ban abortion. I was unable to convince him otherwise.
I have offered to connect him with Mr Epp.
Gaetan also told me he got many calls from supporters of the bill who told him this was a way to criminalize abortion.

I pointed out that no other provincial medical organization has taken such a stand, Gaetan said they wre afraid. It was a very civil converstion. I thank gaetan barette for getting back to me. I will still doo all I can to change the mind of the FMSQ.
In the end we agreed to disagree. he said I was free to keep writing to the papers and expressing my opinions publicly. I will continue to do just that.
