With a big screen version of Dr. Seuss's 1954 story slated for release March 14, Colorado for Equal Rights is celebrating the tale's message and petitioning for a ballot measure asking voters to recognize conception as the start of personhood, the Denver Post reported Wednesday.

The "Horton" book and movie are about an elephant who grows protective when he learns of the existence of a community of tiny creatures.

"It's so true that whatever stage of life you're in, you're a person, whatever your size," Kristi Burton, the anti-abortion group's founder, told the Denver Post.

This movie had been in production for a while. Sadly, when Geisel's wife found out that many people were interpreting it as a pro-life fable, she got very upset and issued a statement that she and her husband were pro-choice and regretted that the story was being used in this manner. Nevertheless, the art stands on its own and will still get a message across.

Perhaps you might want to include a correction that Dr. Geisel didn't appreciate his words and message being taken out of context by "pro-life" groups.

Dr. Seuss is classic; after seeing Horton Hears a Who i was reminded how much that guy can pack into a simple storyline... they didn't add much to the original story either except for the usual Jim Carreyisms.
